New Year, New You….. or not

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

New Year, new you – how often do we hear that and cringe? That is too much pressure for one person. Why do you need a new you; the you you are is just fine. If you want to make some tweaks go ahead and if you are good with where you are at well props to you!

There is enough pressure on women to be all things to all people and the reality is we can’t. So don’t add unrealistic New Years resolutions to the mix. The new year is a good time to take stock of where you are at and make a list of goals that are achievable. Start small with goals that can be easily achieved. This will not only bring you satisfaction but let you check “some boxes” early on in the year which will likely lead to you continuing on this vein and sticking with the plan much longer.

So instead of trying to get that six-pack abs or planning a trip you can’t afford try setting your sights on these 10 resolutions that you can stick to:

1. Read (& finish!) a dozen books this year.

2. Sleep an extra hour a night.

3. Stand for an hour a day while at work

4. Cook a dinner once a week.

5. Drink 2 extra cups of water every day.

6. Commit to 3 hours of exercise/movement a week.

7. Take your coffee black.

8. Meditate for 10 minutes a day.

9. Save 5% of your paycheque.

10. Call your parents at least once a week.

Choose goals for yourself that help to stabilize your personal growth and centre your happiness. When done in a realistic way, creating resolutions can be a productive way to set goals and intentions. Deciding to make positive changes like ditching a bad habit or embracing a healthier one is always a good idea.

Now that you have chosen your new goals how are you going to stick to them?

Here are some tips for making your resolutions stick:

· Write them down

· Get help from the tech world- find an app

· Celebrate every success

· Remember its ok to slip up, just back on track

· Believe in yourself

Good luck, you’ve got this!
